Felt bowls (Ōtepoti)

These felt bowls are made from natural, un-dyed, Aotearoa wool and crafted using traditional felting techniques. Wool felt making is the oldest known way to make fabric, simply by combining wool, soap and water. This handmade material requires no fancy machines or chemicals, and is a simple practice that anyone can learn and use. Design and make your own bowl and leave with the skills to continue felting many other items at home.

Please note:

Please bring one towel. It is a good idea to bring a spare bag for your towel and bowl as they may still be wet after the workshop.
All other materials and tools will be provided.
This workshop is suitable for adults.

Workshops will be held at the O Block Hub at Dunedin School of Art Otago Polytechnic on Anzac Ave (entrance beside the Anzac Ave Bridge, parking is available in Minerva street opposite). More detailed information will be provided prior to the workshop.

Craftsperson

Bella Roake specialises in textile craft. She has a special interest in handmade objects using slow intentional processes including growing her own natural dye and pigment garden, weaving, stitching and spinning. She aims for quality in all things she makes and believes slow creation is important in a world that moves at great pace, always endeavouring to create enduring pieces with an emphasis on storytelling, resourcefulness, and care. Bella is teaching darning and felt bowls, and hosting some of our mending club sessions.

Cancellation

Bookings are mon-refundable. If for any reason (this includes illness, travel delays and injuries) you need to cancel your workshop, you will receive a refund minus a $30 administration fee. This is provided you contact us at least 14 full days before your booking.
