During this workshop you’ll learn the key skills to start hand spinning beautifully soft yarn to use in your knitting, crochet or weaving projects. By learning to use a simple drop spindle, you’ll engage in an ancient craft that has been practised throughout the world for thousands of years. You will be provided with local wool and have the opportunity to purchase a drop spindle to take home to continue your spinning journey.

Annie Mackenzie maintains an artistic practice as a weaver and spinner, occasional dyer, and gardener. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of Canterbury but learnt her craft through the New Zealand Woolcrafts Society of Spinners and Weavers Guilds. Through her practice she celebrates the beauty of wool from fleece to yarn to cloth. Annie is now based on Te Tai o Poutini, the West Coast and teaches drop spindle spinning in Whakatū.
