Complete a practical hearth-style hand brush using locally sourced wood and fibre. This sturdy, easy-to-hold brush is perfect for tidying spaces, from your workbench to your vehicle. You’ll learn fibre preparation and traditional European cord-making techniques with tī kōuka, attaching the fibres securely to the hazel wood handle provided. You’ll experience the satisfying process of creating something functional with your hands, inspiring a deeper connection to everyday tools.

 

Please note: 

  • All materials and tools will be provided.
  • Please bring an intention or job for your brush and if time allows we can work to tweak the brush for the specific job.
  • This class is suitable for adults only.

 

Cancellation

Bookings are non-refundable. If for any reason (this includes illness, travel delays, and injuries) you need to cancel your workshop, you will receive a refund minus a $30 administration fee. This is provided you contact us at least 14 full days before your booking.

Gemma Stratton

Based in Mohua Golden Bay, Gemma is a brush maker. She studied sculpture at the University of Canterbury’s School of Fine Arts where her practice focused on making tools and devices to assist her colleagues with their work. Gemma weaves her long-held dedication to resourcefulness into everything she does. She’s teaching brush and wreath making this year.
